Video Title: Ranking The BEST Programming Languages to get HIRED In Tech
The current Tech Market is absolutely atrocious there’s so many people who need jobs but there’s not a lot of jobs available you’ve been at the job market for some time you’re either a new grad or a boot C grab and it’s been well more than a few months so you start
Questioning is it your resume are your referrals not going through is it just the skill sets not appropriate for this job market and in this video I want to see what programming language has the most jobs available in the current Tech market so here you can see on my screen
I have a very Advanced breakdown of a few languages here JavaScript python PHP C cotlin go and rust now I know there’s a lot more languages than that but these seem to be always the kind of top of the top everyone talks about these how many jobs are available I’ve added a few
Long-term languages I’ve added a few older languages I’ve added a few newer languages just to see where should you be investing your skills if you want the highest probability of getting a job and for the source of the second commum the number of job postings we’re going to
Rely on in indeed.com now there’s a few things I want to bring up before we dive into the numbers one indeed is just one source and all of these are just numbers based in the United States it’s not a representation of the global job market what’s happening in the United States is
Very different than what’s happening in Asia and Europe secondly all because a job has more postings doesn’t necessarily mean your chances are higher because there’s going to be a lot more people applying to you may still have a good chance of Landing a job but let’s
Go right into the numbers real quick so the first progam language we going to look at is Javascript now I know a lot of people going to say well what about typescript what about JavaScript what I’m going to do for you is I’m going to search both I will take the highest
Value between JavaScript and typescript because they shouldn’t really be different at all all right so I’m going to go ahead and put in jav ooh Java I forgot Java we need to add Java right now Java all right so instead of java developer which you get to the end of
The video so stick around let’s go JavaScript developer and you can see that for JavaScript we have 17,640 so put 17K and let’s see if I just change this from a JavaScript to typescript cuz that’s all the cool kids are doing and they do the exact same
Search it’s 5,000 so we’ll take the higher one we’ll keep 177,000 for JavaScript let’s move on to python everyone knows python everybody likes python right you can see here that 19,1 12 people also very much enjoy python all right so if you just pause here for a second these are obviously
Expected I mean if you didn’t know that Java script and python would be two of the jobs that have the most availability then you’re kind of living under a rock I mean these have been around an extremely popular for a while everybody uses JavaScript if you’re a front end
Developer web developer and python the back end just makes a lot of sense it’s easy to use so these numbers don’t necessarily surprise me I mean they’re going to be the most if you want to go and you know optimize your chances do a boot camp for one of these two languages
You will more than likely find a job even though like I said ear at the beginning of the video there’s going to be more people applying it’s it’s a safe bet I mean these two are just safe languages but what about these six remaining older languages that are
Reliable new ones are coming and so like I always say here make sure you don’t do too much PHP in the morning you know just do a couple lines here and there but let’s see PHP developer 2,679 jobs when I first saw this value I actually was quite surprised I thought
There’ be a lot more phb jobs everyone says if you’re a PHP developer it Powers this much of the internet yeah yeah we all know it is it on a decline finally is PHP finally going to die got to watch out it’s going be PHP Dev in the comment
Section below now defend me help me out let’s go to everyone’s favorite C developer how many jobs are here 17,8 181 that is actually a lot now it might be just because I may not be well versed in the c space but the fact that this is
On par with Javas python in this market that’s absolutely incredible oh wow look at this software engineer senior up to 7,500 sign on BS awesome lock Martin o okay maybe maybe not all right let’s check out a different language cotlin cotlin seems to be the know new Android
Application language let see how many Colin Developer jobs are there 774 just just talking about the numbers I don’t care if Colin’s the best I don’t care what DX is Ione just uses DX as like this new way to justify things 774 job postings for program language you
You don’t want to m in that you don’t want to invest all your talent points into this but the next one is go link which as you know if you watched my channel before we love go a lot I use go all the time how many goang jobs are
Available all right so go developer we have 3,69 jobs yikes people going to be like Melky why have you been telling me to learn golang if there’s no jobs available for it so this is a bit of a surprise I think with goang it’s still fairly new and I think there is still
Going to be a lot of companies that have Java even Ruby you know that don’t want to make that move to go or go link even though I think this number is going to increase and I’ll make a separate video if you guys want me to I think the
Number here for golang rust even Colin are on the rise well I think the numbers for you know PHP Java we see those decrease and I’ll make a hot take here I think in the not so distant future we’ll see the numbers for JavaScript and
Python also go down but I don’t want to get too ahead of myself let’s continue on with rust man last time I pissed off the rust developers I had a bunch of subpoenas I still haven’t attended to 567 jobs for rust developers all right and then last in
Last place the person who we added late I expect this one to be higher higher than not as high as C jobs python but fourth place oh my 19,1 123 jobs for Java developers King of Prussia this is crazy it just blasted to first place now I should put an as to
Cuz I don’t know if Java if the search ter here will Encompass Javas script World Java developer Java developer doesn’t look like it n this looks legit this go go Java do your thing all right so I’ve went ahead and I ranked these languages Java is in first python is in
Second that’s a very close I mean that’s that’s like 11 posting difference between the two then we got C and then we have JavaScript I’m surprised JavaScript came forth to be honest I thought it would easily be top two if not top one but this is why we do these
Videos to learn and discover something new the the bottom four I guess with PHP cotland go rust so what I want to say here is learning one of these four languages is going to be extremely beneficial learning Java right now based on these numbers will have the highest
Probability of job openings however Java is Java there’s so many memes made about Java I don’t think necessarily Java is going anywhere but but I think slowly very slowly extremely slowly we will see more and more companies adopt different languages for their back and not just rely on Java which again long-term
Vision I think go and rust are the right plays here but shortterm this awful Market yes Java python C JavaScript are the ways to go so I hope you all enjoyed this video let me know if anything shocks you in the comment section below which language do you want to learn I
Got to let you guys off with two things one should I do this again with other languages can I find eight more language to rank on how many job postings are there but two you got a Power

Did any of these numbers surprise you? If you found this video helpful please let me know in the comment section. It means a lot!
You have to divide by number of people you're competing with. Hypothetically if there's 50 jobs for something but 25 people applying you are likely to get a job despite it being unpopular. Hard to get that data for that side of the equation though
C# with the new updates on Blazor. What a time to be a C# developer.
I did the same search for the UK:
1. C# : 15,109
2. Javascript : 3,209
3. Java : 2,904
4. Python : 2,739
5. Go : 152 – 1,862 *
6. PHP : 860
7. Kotlin : 203
8. Rust : 127
* 'go developer' produced 1,862 jobs, and 'golang developer' produced 152. A likely significant proportion of 'go developer' jobs were not golang jobs.
Notes: I don't think Indeed represents a big enough proportion of tech jobs to make a definitive ranking, especially when things are only ~1k difference outside of C#, which is definitely a big thing in the UK. Java may also be taking some credit from javascript, if non tech people are writing java script, or if the search is identifying java as a substring of javascript in some cases. Also, with regards to finding the best languages to get hired, I think job availability is only one metric. It would be really interesting to see whether things like 'age of job opening' could be scraped so that we could see what subgroup of jobs are having the hardest time finding candidates.
For this method of search, for the UK, I think that the main conclusion you can draw is that C# is the best language if you're looking for the biggest job market. JS, Java and Python are a distant second, but also certainly large enough to warrant learning. For the others, if you're looking for your first or second job then stay away from the hipster languages unless you really know what you want.
Thanks for putting out the data rather than being subjective about it. Subbed
I feel so sorry for developer community, they are unknown how good modern C# is (mostly think it's msft and windows coupled but its not true)
Python jobs are mostly data science & ai related
Java is only highest because when you search, it also includes "JavaScript" in search results
While JavaScript/TypeScript is widely used, it is very advantageous to have an established backend language (Java, C#) as well
why no C/C++? are we too old? :'(
it's 2024
Nothing talks better than numbers. But I still love Python, write on Go and, probably, will learn Rust.
For me, C++ is the best and java must die.
The GO number is GOing to be inflated by all the ads that just happen to have the word "go" (unrelated to the language) so it's gotta be even lower.
Also, the amount of experience and other skills required will vary. Java jobs are generally pretty senior. "Python" jobs often require that you have another language too, and sometimes Python is listed as a nice to have for other types of developer. When Python is the only language required the job will often require a math or science degree, although hopefully the word "developer" will exclude many of those.
However, the overall recommendation at the end of "Java, Python, C#, Javascript" is a good one for any jobless beginner who learns at least two of those instead of putting all their energy into Go, Rust and Kotlin.
JS, Java only languages with lots of jobs and high packages at the same time
567 > 0
one thing to note. some job postings require you to be familiar with other languages as well, in which might skew the results.
i.e. Backend Developer
Requirements: Must be proficient with Go
Bonus: Familiar with frontend javascript frameworks
or
i.e. Backend Developer
Requirements: Must be proficient with Go. However, we will consider if you are coming from other languages like Java or *C#*.
It's cause all the Rust engineers are taking all the jobs. That's why it's so low. I swear I am not coping. It's not cope. Please
No way Javascript is 3rd place, simply because it seems most startups use javascript in the backend, and startups are the majority of tech jobs. This is not to mention the web. I think the problem was you used the term Javascript developer. I believe a lot of job postings specify which libraries or frameworks they want someone to be good at in the job title. Like Angular Developer, React Developer, Vue Developer… etc. On top of that some just say Frontend Developer, and good luck passing the technical interview if you don't know Javascript. I would say the number for all Javascript encompassing jobs would be at least 3 times the stated number.
Can you post your result when looking for golang developer?
A lot of enterprise still uses java outside of pure tech. A lot of the post 2000’s built financial system stuff is in java for instance which needs a lot of maintainers.
