Video Title: Peace of Mind Guitar Lesson Pt.2 (Chords/Rhythms) – Boston
Hey God is Carl Brown’s guitar lessons 365.com what you guys voted for it we got over a thousand likes of the main risk video of peace of mind of just played a little bit of now since we’ve done that now we learn all the rest of
The song so in this video I’m going to take care of all the other rhythm guitar parts quizzing that little acoustic intro which I’m obviously doing it on a clean tone here and then all the other parts of the song are for all the rhythm guitar parts and then in the next video
Lesson you’ll see tomorrow we’ll take a look at all of the solo guitar parts including all those guitar harmonies pretty cool stuff alright so let’s jump right into it we’re still in standard tuning here and we’re going to start with this intro all right so let’s play a little bit
Differently in the intro all the acoustic they make a little bit more percussive but that’s also the chorus of the song it’s just play a little bit more laid-back for the chorus so let’s take a look at this it starts with this c-sharp minor chord but what we’re going to be doing here
Besides the bar across these starting from the string let that bar go all the way across to the low E string so you hold the C sharp minor chord at the 4th fret so that’s just for threat there do a full bar and you’re going to have the
5th fret there on the B string sixth on the G and six on the D so what we’re going to do is we’re going to add the fifth the G sharp in the cord underneath it you don’t have to strong the whole chord just really really up to the
Second string sounds great then you’re going to move up one fret and then take these fingers and move them up one string each to just make it a standard a major chord so this alright so I kind of look down up there and then you get them
Mute the string just a little down up down up so the muted strings then we’re going to grab an E major chord and what once again we’re going to add the fifth in the bass so instead of the standard he actually Tom soulstones uses pinky there you can use you can use
Your third finger there does that really matter but we are borrowing across the seventh fret on the a and the low E and then adding the that bar here of the ninth from the D G and the B so you hit that and then you switch it to a B major
Chord so just like the chord a major here back at the 7th fret instead and then he does a quick little basically he lifts off the 3rd finger there to go down to the 7th fret on the a string and then back to the 9th fret so he kind of
Rotates between like that so we have this so there’s a 7 9 7 on the a now a little mute and he starts over all right from there we get into the main riff which we’ve already covered and now that you can play this and he he’s actually you can watch live
Videos and he’s actually I think played this a couple different ways the same notes of course but sometimes open so just wrote it the way I did it originally When you get there we jump up to this little transition trip which happens a couple times its transition us into the verse it looks like this all right so what is important there is this is actually in multiple guitar parts going on there you probably have a guy going There’s that standard kind of Chuck Berry stuff Tom Schultz also doing this live but what you can do here is is you can make sure you can get the LOI in there and it’s amazing going into that a major now you can do that by muting the
A string with the tip of your index finger so let when you’re doing that bar the ninth fret across CD let that tip of the finger go and touch the bottom of that a string so it kind of mutes it out so then you can actually sit wrong across
All the shrinks is out going in there and not have this a string in there because you’re muting it with the tip of your index finger so we have this so what I’m doing there is I’m just playing I’m coming down to 11 spent
There on the D and the 10th fret on the B and I’m really focusing on those three strings You gotta just kind of hum that melody so it’s just like one-one in the 1 1 1 2 then 1 1 and then it just goes straight forward so now what he’ll do is so you see that when I’m starting I’m just hit the LOI the first time I let it
Ring and then went just a second okay hit all the strings again to keep that low e-string going so it just makes it sound full and then we have that all right now that little liquor begins over just weirdos and what’s going on here I’m going to do
These double stops up there at the 13th fret on the G and their 12th fret on the B it goes quite flat into them and then move it down two frets and then didn’t go down to the ninth fret there bar again across those three strings and
Then we do this little Hendrickson thing which she does a lot in the song and it’s just he’s you know when he doesn’t live you might not repeat it the same way each time and even in the song will vary it slightly but we have kind of a
Good rendition of that when you get down to the three nine then you add your lever threat there on the D and just pick a gene the D string together And then simmer kinda level me day and then back to the two nines of the D energy all right then we make it to the chorus which sounds like this it has those little hendrix he fills throughout it You All right so that verse is going to be the same concept in the beginning just rotating between that a major triad and a major with the muting the a string and then when you getting ready to transition down here you did it that little hammer from 911 again on the a-string
You can have the D string 9th fret in there to 9 and then add a knife but on the D with that if you’ve ever planted a Hendrix chord work which I have videos on all the time You know exactly what’s going on here so we have this intern see that little cord work there and then you’re going to jump back here to the fifth fret here to do it really a D power cord so that’s just the different nearly a seventh on the D energy then same thing
Up one string e to the a power chord and then into this E power chord you get the low E in there with it two sets of seven throw them there on the a string the power cord built off that and then back in that’s sliding in on the nine to
Eleven nine and the D hammer on that where the theme so he’s just kind of messing around what it’s kind of one of those things where you really just want to live eating so you can kind of do whatever you really want there So I would play someone like this And then this second time sir just move this power cord instead of over 16 okay the theme here so now a few press to be We need to kind of the Chuck Berry thing which is the power cord slides and then add the 11th fret there on the a replace the ninth fret with the 11th and then back to the knot another for strum pattern All right so from there we go to the chorus no one like we said it’s very similar to the opening riff All right so we’re just starting with that same chord that we did on the acoustic our earlier name forward but you’re really just kind of focusing on the bottom strings so you can do the whole chord they’re just kind of like powerful versions of everything they’ll
Bottom three strings or so and then here same thing kind of talked with you on the fourth fifth and sixth strings lemon crazy one you you still do that little transition there and then after a few times there’s all my sounds the eighth chord you can
Do the names over there if you want to and then we’re back to the same verse again the love the first of verse transition rib so it’s kind of the same process again going through the same exact course and everything then we get to the bridge section now the bridge section sounds
Like this All right so now what we’re going to be doing here is a slightly different version of this when you first hear it without the vocal it’s slightly different than when the vocals come in so we’re going to start here with a power chord at the 7th stud off the low
E string 7 there 9 liege one two three four five then go to four on the Lois then to the open a power cord then the power cord off the fourth fret of the a string then back to the seven See that now when the vocals come in after you played that riff twice you can see this slight little difference in it All right so what’s going on there we have the power cord one two three and then and lift up that pinky so now it’s gonna be the seventh fret there on the a string G seven going the a in the EE together then back nine anything after that And then we’re going to end it with this power cord therefore press back down to two and then the e now when you did something you played a teenage aboard and then really guitar player that goes Or just That’s just holding the the second front they on the D and the first problem the Jews in the open beam and then coming down at a major port on those three strings And then we kind of layers with one little lick down here but that main one you hear is that again all right so now the ending of that bridge section was going to skip ahead here towards closer further on down the song when we had that it is like this Mm-hmm Now if you know the song all those how many parts build-up and so when I play the lower one it continues then they add another one and they add another one on top so it becomes his big harmony part so I’m going to show you these harmony
Parts of this rhythm lesson because it’s really part of a rhythm guitar part so we’re just going to go For the chords at least we’re exiting the bridge section the second time planet and that power chords for threat to an omen a entropy and individually coming in like this and that’s just the fourth to open alright so that goes on for the entire time but then over that they start
Building guitar harmonies the first guitar harmony is this it’s just me why didn’t that thing now that’s loud the beginning it starts to stay in the mix but it stays in the harmony so you’re gonna each one of these hardly just really just made the three notes so you keep descending the
Last play you go hmm and you basically end on the middle note and then the next army that adds on top of that is six for two on the G And the next harmony so you can decide which ones you might want to just you have two guitar players you guys are always playing the top two harmony parts as they go into the mix next one that’s five forces on the g string and the last hundred part is 975 on the
B then back to the seven chord so those are all on top of each other for each one of those harmony parts all rights consult you know he just loves building these huge harmony parts alright so now we are the only thing left to cover is the the rhythms doing
This during the solos and we’re going to cover the actual solos in the next video so the rhythms of the solos we’ve really kind of already covered issues So it’s just that power cord at the fifth fret they’re only a string over to the low E power chord of the project and then to the e non-words and then some of those Hendrix tea type fills all right it really every time you plays it live he doesn’t different and
Just go back into the chord Canessa raladin and there’s a full-time up there on that B again like we did before being the bird and then it goes through the chorus progression for the rest of the solo All right so stay tuned to the next video we have a lot of fun we’re going to check out these guitar solos a lot of layers and harmonies but not that hard to learn so I’ll see you then you

Any chance you can break that down ? Thanks, D
How do you get that sound from your strat?
0:32 That's so Kiss. There had to be some influence there. Pity you didn't used looper at the beginning.
Great tutorial! I thought it would take years for me to learn this but you’ve made it so simple
THANK YOU !!!
PLEASE, PLEASE Can you do a lesson for "Don't Look Back"? That is my favorite Boston song!

Boston has the best guitar riffs in my opinion..i think Boston is a seriously underated band..when they come on the radio you know its boston by their sound and killer guitar riffs no doubt..its just like hearing van halen you know its them or led zeppelin you automatically know its them because they got that certain sound..but you are so talented thank you for taking the time to show us how to play it takes alot of patients to be a good teacher you do very well..
