Video Title: how to play “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You” on guitar by Led Zeppelin – acoustic guitar lesson part 2
And then coming out of that we’re going to get into heavy section with the electric guitar comes in and the chords there like I explained in the beginning a minor and we’re going to play this C over G but we’re also going to add our little finger here on e3 in
The genome and then d 7r f sharp and then F E and you can do that if you want to know the thumb over if you’re good at that and ok and one of the guitars I’m pretty sure does that has an open e so
If you can thumb over and get that that opening okay like an E major seven okay one of them does that I hear that in there sometimes but the other one is just a straight okay so it sounds like yes okay so what we’re gonna do there is
Just down and up right with our picking our strumming hand and he’s kind of he’s kind of going open to courted right and then when you hit this poor is C over G do the same thing now I’m leaving that on okay but I’m taking the others off so
Sometimes I’ll just take that one up right same thing here leaving that see on the whole time and half and in the demo when I do that F I did one F like this get that that major seventh in there so that part would have sounded like this
So that’s how that goes and also I wanted to mention the the meter in the song is crazy like the majority of it is it about 133 132 around there 134 sometimes but when it gets to this part it goes up to 140 okay so that part is
Sped up big time and then when you get into this part it’s slowed down again it’s down to about 135 134 and this is one of the great things about Zeppelin that I love so much they speed up they slow down to suit the song they play
With this great feel and you know when I did the demo playing against the drum machine it’s just yeah it just it’s okay you know you can’t get the feel that you do with a real drummer and especially a guys as good as John Bonham if you
Really listen to that heavy but he really puts the brakes on that and just pulls the whole band back and it really gives it a lot of power you know that’s a really really great part okay so that’s that’s pretty well all the parts there are now what I’m going to do is
I’m going to talk about the variation and the second half of the song on the main Lecco key because he shifts positions cuz it comes out of that this sort of third first and it goes like yes now a position ship you and what happens on the base is he just
Rides the a now okay that actual bass guitar is still doing the descending but the guitar stays on the game and what we do is we come up here the third finger on d7 first finger on a 5 mm g5 and little finger on b8 right and then put our middle finger on
B6 and they’re kind of staccato that one’s to cattle now we’re going to shift this down two frets but put our middle finger here on G four right so we go from here there be six to b5 you now we’re going to shift this down a
Fret but instead of this we’re going to put our first finger on G 2 so that to that and we’re going to go exactly the same pattern is the first one but just down here with their third finger on d4 so d4g too B 5 B 3 okay so we’ve got
And then we finish it off with high e-string they’re right Loie on the bottom and we go back up here so the whole thing strolling can we want to let that East ring ring as we go back up and so that’s one of the variations in that position and the
Other variation is almost identical except for one note so we just go so we’re good doing it backwards to go on AF first one would be second one and then identical after that right and when you when you hit that E you want to definitely let that high e ring right so
Okay and then sometimes he’ll go we all see back up here and you just have to listen to which ones are which there and figure out how you want to do that but those are the parts that he plays and that actually is my favorite goon variation
I think it sounds really really nice okay so that’s it that’s pretty well everything those are all the four parts that you need to learn those are I’ve showed you almost every variation there but like I say the main leg is it’s only those four notes right
There’s got to be one of those okay or that one with the f-sharp but that only happens once okay then there’s the ending we’re coming out of that the heavy part right just play that f right picking forward and pick backwards right forward on the
App backward on the E and then he does this thing just trilling between the G 2 and G 4 right so okay and then we get into the end look it’s a combination of two guitars and bass and the bass does this is descending lick okay while the guitars do this
And while one is arpeggiating those the other is just plucking all three strings at the same time right hmm and I’m doing it up here which is d 7 g 9 B 10 but you could do it here too you know just a 2 or G to B 5 5
And then just sliding down one fret right you right but I chose to do it up here so you’ve got that and then you just drop your that g9 to g8 okay so that’s what they do on the record because the guitar doesn’t play any bass lines but if you want to play
It by yourself right and use the baselines I’ve done it up here I’ve seen other guys play it down here and it’s super hard right do these these crazy stretches that just hurt my wrist and they’re just completely impractical like really nobody is ever going to play like that it’s too hard
Right so I worked out a way where you can play the whole thing up here and it’s a little bit tricky but it’s more doable than these these insane stretches okay so what I do here is I’ve got like I explained you’ve got d7 g9 b10 and I’ve got my middle finger
Here on e nine okay for the bass and then I’m going to slide those two fingers down a fret but keep these fingers here now the only drawback of doing it this way is it really hard to keep that string ringing but it’s way easier overall and
I’m willing to put up with that to compromise holding that that a string or that a note to be able to play this okay and have that baseline in that’s what we’re going to play this and then drop those two down okay now we’re going to shift positions
And we’re going to put our middle finger here on e7 d7 and GSA third finger little finger little uh first finger here on e5 right that’s a little tricky to get that going because you kind of got to cram a lot of fingers into a small space okay
Then we’re just going to drop that middle finger down one fret so we’ve got this okay so that’s how I get that thing you know the baseline and the guitar parts right or you could go okay but I like the arpeggios and then we’ve got the last chord which
Is it’s just d7 g5 okay so you’ve got that open be in there in an open e and the way you do that is this okay so your Pidgey ate it right on the B string and then your page hit it on the E string right you do that twice
The last time you just hold it on the B right and finish off with the a minor chord Barre chord and there’s a series of acoustic fills and electric fills mostly acoustic where he’s just kind of jamming around playing looks right and I just threw the one of
Them in there because I don’t know there’s so much going on in this song but I’ll just show you the one I put in there goes it yes it’s just based on a minor scale which is c-major same thing right Oh okay I’m not gonna say every fret
Because you can see what I’m doing here okay then a little G to be won and then we do this and then he does this fast like right right and then he’ll do it again down the next ring so right just on the F note here on d3
Right so it’s and he finishes it off with this okay so it’s starting on the B flat which is weird I know but that’s what he does chromatically up to the c chromatically down pull off break the egg open a okay so that whole thing would be Oh
And that’s how he does that but there’s a like I said there’s a ton of those in there I’m not going to go over all them because really he’s you know I’m sure he did that one or two takes or just kind of Jam things right but I threw that one
In there because I don’t know I thought I should do at least one of them so when we do the heavy part we the electric comes in what I hear is him doing octaves which is just e 3 and d 5 sliding up to 2 frats from the you know
From the G to the a right ok then we’ve got where you can just open right and then we’ve got F sharp and we can bounce that off the open two and then we’ve got F F power chord right to the e so and they’re all bouncing off
That open right except for the first one okay and it goes back up there at one point right okay and that’s that part of the electric and then the only other part of the electric is the that slide thing right and I think that’s how they did it
You know when the acoustic is up that part there that I just did it with my slide just one like that and just added a whole ton of reverb to it afterwards right okay so that’s pretty well it for what I did with the electric part that’s it that’s the song
Great song you know like super epic and it’s a really good example of how Jimmy Page will take you know a basic idea and just expand on it and be really creative with it and come up with all these different ways to play kind of like the
Same thing right so anyways hope you get something out of the video and yeah we’ll talk to you next time you

Bella spiegazione bravissimo 👍👍👍
Been working on this song for a bit over a year and just through your part 1!
Thank you my friend.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Interesting alternative way to play, although different in a few parts than Jimmy Pages concerts and studio recordings
My brother, I worship one God and that is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
With that said, I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you have done for the guitar community as far as a mentor / teacher. You have taught me so much and I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. When I heard you do landslide by Fleetwood Mac, I knew you were the real deal.
Please keep up the good work and may God continue to bless you in your talents my brother.
Only the serious beasts are studying part 2 y’all
what kind of guitar is this?
Wow! You’re the go to man. Love how you play and teach it perfectly
Really nice lesson, just caught it for the first time! I just don’t know how to pick like you do, I flat pick it. Do you have a lesson on your picking style I can practice?
I would really love to play with your picking style! Great lesson and it’s one of my favorite songs to play! Thanks
Andy,
I remember my son sitting in his stroller as a baby and me working from"The Complete" Led Zeppelin volume of ALL their music trying to put this song into practice from the tabs.
This was over 30+ years ago! This was before…You! And YouTube! Andy, somthing I have said for awhile now… I saw the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 64…If "You"…and YouTube was around then…I would have been on the Ed Sullivan show!
Lol! 😆You are a amazing 👏 player and teacher!
For me…agewise"the show" is almost over😢.
My playing has gotten so good because of your lessons and guys like you, I ALWAYS wonder what could have been if I had the proper training as a kid! For now I'm happy just to learn a tune from you and play along with the record. Sorry for the long comment but you brought back a long lost memory from a much simpler time in my life!
Thanks Ray 😉👍🏻
Boston!

You’re really on it 🫡 And yes my version of the ending was that crazy insane fingering of it you’re talking about lol 😂
What a fantastic teacher and player.! This is gold Jerry.
INCREDIBLY GREAT LESSON ABSOLUTELY NAILED IT….. 💯%….Subscribed 👍🏻
Flat picked this when I was a kid but was frustrated at all the variations I knew I missed. This video encouraged me to move up my fingerpicking skills a ton. Thanks.
9:11 the acoustic ending
12:05
I have very short hands… and even with a travel guitar my thumb can’t press the E… so , I have to do the F with the Barr to sound correct… oh well… adaptations…
Thank you for the lesson. It will take some practice!! Great lesson, again…
Thanks a lot
Can't believe I see Robert Plant in comments I've always wanted to sound like him. I will.
This video is incredible! Thank you so much for making this, I am so grateful. Hope you are doing well in these crazy times and I hope you can make some more Jimmy Page songs! Maybe the Rain Song next? Cheers from Toronto (:
Question:
Why can I only find this tab in the Led Zeppelin bundle?
Congrats! Great!
This is an outstanding tutorial and in 30 years of playing it's one of my most favorite songs I've ever learned. Genius Jimmy Page.
You are an amazing teacher thank you for this lesson 👍🏻😊🙏
Just have to say..
Started watching you ..years ago and then had to stop because Ytube was blocking your stuff and I just didn't have any money to pay to watch on your home page and I felt too guilty to watch for free.
Your complete breakdown of this one song alone is..the best thing I have ever seen on Ytube and I have been watching it since the day it went on line.
I still don't know how to play anything..because it has been a rough few years but Ytube finally recommended your channel to me again today and what a joy it is to watch and listen to you work. In fact, I just blew off an entire Sunday rabbit holed into reviewing all of my favorite songs you have covered.
Just hope you are doing okay in these ..troubling times. and let you know once again what a special thing it is that you are (and have been) doing.
Good but how about the ending? I have yet to figure out the chords he played on the end.
I love this lesson, you are an amazing teacher, and you play it like the original, compared to some other guys who kinda plays it their "own" way during a lesson. When you were teaching the lick, it was a little bit hard for me to follow up, and i had to go back all the time, because you were going so fast, so maybe if you did it once really slow, it would be helpfull. Otherwise perfect 🙏
Awesome tutorial thank you very much. Can you please teach some doors lessons please 😊
6:00–6:28 I cannot, for the life of me, stop muting the G string with my ring finger; the finger span is just too great a distance for me to be right on top of the string, yet you can get it to ring clear as day. Any general suggestions to try to fix that?
ugh I'm super newbie I guess it will take forever to play this song hahaha
do you take requests by any chance? i've been dying to learn the solo to i put a spell on you by ccr but can't find an online tutorial for the life of me, thought i'd ask the pro
man i love u
A bit late, but I think that Electric slide part was actually a theremin with some effects on it for an eerie sound. great tutorial!
Seriously, who the fu@k puts a down vote on any of Andy's videos?
What standard would you say this song is.? Intermediate or advanced? I had to learn to fingerpick to learn this thank you so much
Why this video is not playable now…
nice job
amazing teaching! thanks. All the weird page nuances explained!
The best of lessons!
Thank you so much. Finally i've learned this song
Awesome man! One of my favorite songs. You broke it down really well!
That Taylor 214ce-K Grand Auditorium sounds great…..of course the player has a little to do with it 😉
Awesome lesson, Andy. I better nail this one before they make you it take it down too.
i only can say thank you….its perfect…real music….you rockkkkk
Sir plzzz make a lesson on Dream On by Aerosmith….You are amazing and Thanx for this amazingly explained lesson
great job teaching this song, great detail and pacing thx bro
